The Sicily Mafia defeated the New York Skyliners, 7-4, in part because of center fielder Valentin Covi. Covi went 2-3 with 2 singles and a walk for the Mafia. The Mafia sport a record of 16-26.
Tiberio Bagio had a big bases-clearing double for the Mafia in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Sicily leading 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a cutter from Bobby Stamper, who finished 4th in the TOBA in innings pitched with 168.2 in 1953, and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 10th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mafia ahead, 5-1.
Said New York manager Dan Danielson: "They did a lot of things right. We did a lot of things wrong."
