Mobile Beats Providence, 6-3
|
The Mobile Monsters weathered a fine game by Providence first baseman Wei-hong Shao to upend the Anglers, 6-3, at Mobile Park. Shao went 3-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Zee-loo Fan got the win, improving to 4-3. He pitched 7.2 innings, giving up 8 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 1. Picking up the save was 26-year old right-handed pitcher Jessie Blackwell.
Katsumi Aono had a big 2-run double for the Monsters in the bottom of the third inning. With Mobile leading 2-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a knuckle curve from 26-year old right-handed pitcher Steve Ausmus and swatted a double to right. It was his 9th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Monsters ahead, 4-0.
"It's still just a game," said Aono, "whether you win or lose."
At 25-21, the Monsters have a slim two-game lead in the Trans-Oceanic Baseball Association West Division.
