The Mobile Monsters launched their 1953 campaign with a victory over the Paris Lions at Mobile Park. Mobile third baseman Byron Ward was instrumental in the 5-4 win. He hit 2 home runs. Mobile pitcher Wei-qian Le got the win. He's now 1-0. William Kelly was tagged with the loss.

The Monsters got a clutch hit from right fielder Chi-ju Li. In the bottom of the 11th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Monsters.

"We take it day by day here," said Ward, "and today was a good one for us."
