Berlin Loses, 9-4, in 10
|
The bad news for the Berlin Bears: an opening day loss, 9-4, to the New York Skyliners in 10 innings at Bears Fields. The good news: it was just game one in a long season. No one played better than Hanz Berens. He was 2-5 with a home run and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the tenth, with the game tied, Alfredo Jimenez was at the plate when New York scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Skyliners to go in front, 5-4.
"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Jimenez.
