|
In a low-scoring affair between the Providence Anglers and the Paris Lions, pitcher Aaron Maier was the difference between victory and defeat. The Providence right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 3-1 Anglers win. Maier yielded 1 run over 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. His record improves to 2-1. Ruben Guerrero locked down his 1st save.
Mashiro Oda had a big solo home run for the Anglers in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Providence leading 2-1 and the bases empty, he sized up a changeup from Josh Harmon, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1952 draft, and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Anglers on top, 3-1.
"Felt great, felt really good," said Maier.
The Lions fall to 3-9 and continue their unimpressive start to the 1954 season.
