Cruz Goes 5-for-6 Against Matsuyama
Saturday, May 30th , 1953
There aren't many who could be pro ballplayers and there are even fewer who could put up 5 hits in a day.
Jorge Cruz is one of those rare few, as he went 5-for-6 against the Matsuyama Farmers at Team Park. The monster effort from the 16-year-old left fielder helped the Itsukushima Trawlers get the win, 19-6.
"We made some bad pitches and he took advantage of it," said Farmers manager . "That's the game, though. Don't make mistakes and you'll win ballgames. Make mistakes and, well, you saw what happened today."
Jorge Cruz hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, grounded out in the 6th, singled in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
Looking at his stats this year, Cruz has compiled a .378 batting average, while hitting 1 home run and driving in 16 runs. He has played in 21 games and scored 20 runs.
