Jared Nunn Named GIL's Best Player
Thursday, June 25th , 1953
At the age of 15, Jared Nunn of the Imabari Ginners could very well have his best years ahead of him.
It's a startling thought when you consider the year he had in 1953 was good enough to win the second baseman the Geiyo Islands League Most Valuable Player Award.
"See the ball, hit the ball," he said. "That's my basic approach."
The top hitter put up a .360 batting average this year, as well as a .458 on-base percentage. He played 40 games and racked up 58 hits, 6 doubles, 2 triples, 9 home runs, 30 RBIs and 31 runs scored.
He received 3 first place votes out of a possible 8. Ethan Chennells of the Onomichi Fishers finished second in voting with 2 first place votes, while Bor-zeng Fang of the Matsuyama Farmers finished third with 1 first place vote.
