Ferriers Pitching Ravaged by Johnson Thursday, May 15th , 1952 Hiroshima left fielder Mark Johnson had a big day at Team Park against the Osakikamijima Ferriers. The 19-year-old, who is not typically considered a big threat with the bat, went 5-for-6 and led to the 17-9 Ironmen triumph over Osakikamijima . "Hey, I'm as surprised as you guys are," Johnson said in his postgame comments, smiling as he scolded the press corps for underestimating him. "Maybe I'm not so bad at the plate after all." Mark Johnson doubled in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Bong-su Ko in the 3rd, grounded out in the 4th, hit a two-run double in the 5th, singled in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off Tony Lomeli in the 8th. So far this season, Johnson is batting .410 with 3 home runs, 8 RBIs and 9 runs scored. He has 16 hits in 39 at-bats, 3 walks and a .452 OBP. Johnson has played in 9 games. |
