Premier Player Named by Geiyo Islands League Thursday, June 24th , 1954 The manager of the Onomichi Fishers said he thinks Antonio Ramirez is only going to get better as he gets older. He may only be 16, but it will be hard to top the second baseman's 1954 campaign, as he has been named the winner of the Geiyo Islands League Most Valuable Player Award. His winning campaign featured a .380 batting average and a .449 on-base percentage this year. In 40 games he piled up 65 hits, 11 doubles, 3 triples, 13 home runs, 43 RBIs and 32 runs scored. He received 5 first place votes out of a possible 8. Dario Canalo of the Osakikamijima Ferriers finished second in voting, while Cal Leveque of the Onomichi Fishers finished third with 3 first place votes.
