3 Roundtrippers for Gonzalez Friday, July 25th , 1958 Sometimes it just isn't enough. Willie Gonzalez had an outstanding day at Paris Municipal Park for the Berlin Bears, ripping three home runs. Nonetheless, the Bears fell to the Paris Lions, 11-10. Gonzalez had a feast at the plate, pounding everything thrown his way. The 30-year-old first baseman banged out 4 hits in 5 at-bats, scored 4 times and batted in 6 runs. Despite his sensational performance, the Bears were not able to hold off the Lions. "Baseball is a funny game," Gonzalez said in the post-game interview, "You can't dwell on the reasons for the loss. I'm sure there will be days when I go 0-for-4 and we win. These things tend to even out." Willie Gonzalez hit a solo-shot off Parker Frost in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off Parker Frost in the 5th, singled in the 8th and hit a three-run home run off Will Brouwer in the 9th.
