Mobile Blanks Los Angeles Behind Martel
Friday, May 9th , 1952
The Los Angeles Stars were almost helpless in their 10-0 loss to the Mobile Monsters and hurler Oscar Martel. Martel kept the Stars confused all game, spinning a 4-hit shutout.
"Tip your hat to Martel," Los Angeles manager Dan Danielson said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."
The 28-year-old right-hander had 2 walks and 5 strikeouts in a strong performance.
"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Martel said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
