Martinez Hits 3 Homers Wednesday, July 2nd , 1958 Freddy Martinez of the Red Wings went on a hitting spree at Gold Miners Park and earned membership in the select club of hitters who have hit three home runs in a game. He blasted three into the stands in a loss, 7-6, to the New York D Gold Miners. "I'm not happy with the outcome of the game, but it was still a great game for me," Martinez said in the clubhouse following the loss. "I have been making solid contact lately, but not getting any lift. Today I got it up in the air and out of the ballpark. I had my home run swing down pat. Got some good pitches to hit, too." The Sicily D third baseman did indeed have quite a game, collecting 3 hits in 5 at-bats, 4 RBIs and scoring 3 runs. Freddy Martinez flied out in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Jordan Sanchez in the 3rd, walked in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Jordan Sanchez in the 7th, hit a solo-shot off Roger Schmaltz in the 9th and struck out in the 11th. This season, Martinez is hitting at a .336 pace with 4 home runs, 11 RBIs and has scored 17 times. |
