Miller Super -- No-Hits Newfoundland D
Monday, July 7th , 1958
Los Angeles D Kodiaks starter Matt Miller said he was standing behind the mound when the scoreboard caught his eye, confirming what he already knew: He was one out from a no-hitter. For a couple of seconds, he didn't move.
"I took a breath and told myself 'This is the last one,'" Miller recalled.
The right-hander collected himself, got the final out, and finished one of the greatest performances of his career.
The Los Angeles D right-hander no-hit the Newfoundland D Dalmatians, 2-0, at Dalmatians Fields, finishing with 3 walks and 10 strikeouts, facing only 30 batters.
"I knew for a while it was a no-hitter," Miller admitted later. "But I really didn't worry about it until the last out. I thought I just wanted to win the game, and then I realized I wanted the no-hitter, too."
So far this year, Miller has compiled a 3-1 record with a 1.74 ERA.
