Hernandez Blanks Sicily D, 1-0 Monday, September 20th , 1954 The Sicily D Red Wings manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Mobile D Magicians. The Red Wings were overpowered by Mobile D starter Alex Hernandez, who hurled his club to victory, 1-0. "It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," said. Over 9 innings, Hernandez blanked Sicily D on 9 hits with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. "I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Hernandez said. "I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one." So far this year, Hernandez has made 15 starts, tossed 111.2 innings, struck out 61 batters and walked 46. His record is 7-7 with a 3.55 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .273 batting average. |
