Thursday, April 8th , 1999
After a 5-hit effort to lead Europa's 9-6 victory over the Mexico City Meteors, third baseman Edwin Calderon told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."

"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the Sol Baseball League 2-level is really something special."

The 21-year-old player earned his accolades at Mexico City Stadium with a spectacular 5-for-5 game against the Meteors.

"His swing is getting there," said Mudraptors skipper , who spoke glowingly of Calderon after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Edwin did that to perfection."

Edwin Calderon hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Amador Reliogoso in the 3rd, singled in the 6th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off Edoardo Ciaccheri in the 9th.
