Pitcher of the Year Award Goes to Olthof
Saturday, May 9th , 1953
What does it take to win the Pitcher of the Year Award?

Just ask Perry Olthof of the Buffalo Junior College Warhawks -- the latest TOBA Junior College Pitcher of the Year Award winner.

"My dad always told me to dream big and dream always," he said. "It's not like I shoot for the Pitcher of the Year Award," he said. "I have big aspirations for what I want to do in this game and what I want to achieve in a long career."

The Warhawks pitching ace made some of his dreams come true this year, winning 8 games and losing only 2. In 13 starts, Olthof registered a 3.31 ERA and limited other clubs to a .256 batting average. He fanned 56 in 100.2 innings and issued 34 walks.

He received 8 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Josh Tozer of the Boston School of Applied Sciences & Technologies Canucks finished second in voting, while Shkumbin Kiuprili of the Berlin Technical College Jayhawks finished third.
