At the age of 20, Otte van Baardewijk of the Ghent Community College Mud Cats could very well have his best years ahead of him.

It's a startling thought when you consider the year he had in 1953 was good enough to win the first baseman the TOBA Junior College Most Valuable Player Award.

"See the ball, hit the ball," he said. "That's my basic approach."

The top hitter put up a .439 batting average this year, as well as a .511 on-base percentage. He played 48 games and racked up 83 hits, 18 doubles, 4 triples, 11 home runs, 46 RBIs and 45 runs scored.

He received 4 first place votes out of a possible 8. David Dumoulin of the Paris Agricultural College Drillers finished second in voting with 3 first place votes, while Tyler Lopez of the Buffalo Junior College Warhawks finished third with 1 first place vote.
