Iceland Downed, 6-4, by Mafia
|
The Sicily Mafia topped the Iceland Aurora, 6-4, at Mussolini Municipal Park. Sicily center fielder Cipriano Furio was a spark plug for the offense. He went 2-4 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Pippo Ammanati was the winner. He's now 13-7. The loser was four-time All-Star Jessy Kok. By defeating Iceland, the second-place Mafia improved to 43-39.
Turin, Italy-born Andino Donatello came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the eighth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and the Mafia trailing 4-3, he hit a 2-run single to center to put Sicily on top.
"They played a better game than we did," said Iceland skipper Dan Danielson.
