Iceland C Halts Goff's Hitting Steak Friday, June 28th , 1957 For once, it was the Lisbon C Whitehawks picking up the slack for Uinsin Goff. The club's "offensive catalyst," as Lisbon C manager has frequently called him, went uncharacteristically silent and saw his 20-game hitting streak snapped by the Iceland C Cyclones. Goff was bailed out by the rest of the Whitehawks, however, who stopped the Cyclones, 5-4. The 20-year-old left fielder finished the day 0-for-5, and told reporters at the postgame press conference that "everybody did their job but me." "Not that it was a huge problem -- we still won the game," he said with a grin. "The streak was a good run though. I'll try to start another one tomorrow." For the year, Goff has hit .362 with 10 home runs, 40 RBIs and scored 43 runs. |
