Heckel Goes on Rampage Against Shockers Monday, July 13th , 1953 New York C left fielder Jeremias Heckel could do no wrong today, but the Inferno could. Heckel collected 5 hits against the Paris C Shockers, but he couldn't win the game. New York C fell, 3-2, in extra innings at New York A Stadium. "It's a shame we didn't win," Heckel said later. "It would have been a very special day if that had happened." "In every one of his at-bats, things were in his favor," Shockers manager said. "We couldn't keep him from getting ahead in the count and once you get ahead, it makes it a lot easier because you get better pitches to hit." Jeremias Heckel flied out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, grounded out in the 7th, flied out in the 9th, singled in the 11th, singled in the 14th, struck out in the 16th and doubled in the 18th. So far this season, Heckel has no home runs and a .326 batting average. |
