Mayer Grabs TCC Reliever of the Year Award Monday, August 15th , 1955 Volker Mayer said he thinks hitters often underestimate him, as he's only 23 years old. But he'll certainly be getting a lot more respect now, as the Sicily C Emperors rising star has won the TOBA Class C Reliever of the Year Award for 1955. He captured the award on the strength of his 1.96 ERA over 55 innings. He also had 15 saves in 40 relief appearances, 39 strikeouts and only 9 walks. He received 8 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Leopold Brown of the Providence C Jackrabbits finished second in voting, while Edip Ecevit of the New York C Inferno finished third.
