Mele Hits in 20 Straight Games Monday, July 11th , 1955 Paul Mele, center fielder for the Mobile R Skeeters, ran his consecutive-game hitting streak to 20 games with 3 hits in his club's 9-4 victory over the Providence R Nationals at Skeeters Grounds. "I don't really know why it's even happening," he said with a grin after the game. "So asking me how long I can keep it up is kind of irrelevant. It'll end when it ends." Paul Mele flied out in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, hit a two-run triple in the 4th, flied out in the 6th and singled in the 8th. This season, Mele is hitting at a .378 pace with 2 home runs, 11 RBIs and has scored 5 times. |
