Monday, July 27th , 1953
Warsaw fans have something to crow about today as Warsaw third baseman Weiner Stolle nabbed the Eastern Bloc Baseball Player of the Week Award for his performance over the last seven days.
"I know there are times when it's hard to lay off pitches. Everyone goes through stretches when he's too eager to put the ball in play. You know, though, I feel like this past week I was able to get in the right frame of mind and just let things come naturally," said Stolle.
He posted a .545 average (12-for-22) this past week with 3 home runs, 5 RBIs, and 4 runs scored.
This season, Stolle is swinging the bat at a .285 pace. He has hit 7 home runs and scored 33 times, while driving in 34. His on-base percentage is .365 and he has played in 73 games.
