When it came to hitting the baseball, Otte van Baardewijk had few peers in the North Sea Baseball League this year. The gifted first baseman for Emden tagged opposing pitchers for a .364 average and was voted the Most Valuable Player Award for 1953. Included in his season stats were 56 hits, 8 doubles, 2 triples, 10 home runs, 36 runs scored and 36 RBIs.

He received 5 first place votes out of a possible 8. Danny Saunders of the Leeuwarden Bombers finished second in voting with 1 first place vote, while Eb Hartog of the Leeuwarden Bombers finished third.
