Big Day for Marmolejo: Swats 5 Hits
Saturday, June 29th , 1957
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Nate Marmolejo, it came around today.
The 28-year-old left fielder scattered hits all over San Jose AAA Stadium to pace the 13-12 Lisbon A Spirit victory over the New York A Big Stick.
New York A skipper told reporters in the press room that "Marmolejo deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Marmolejo hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Nate Marmolejo singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off Austin Kotewa in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and walked in the 9th.
So far this year, Marmolejo is batting .422 with 5 home runs, 24 RBIs and 23 runs scored.
