Vinyard Slaps 5 Hits Thursday, July 3rd , 1958 It doesn't happen very often, but it did for Brian Vinyard -- a 5-hit effort. He went on a rampage at Ballpark of Houston AAA and paced the 8-7 Rivermen win over the Providence A Pilgrims. After his dynamite batting performance, the Mobile A center fielder told reporters that he "just tried to get in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control." His philosophy paid dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 7 tries and put his name in the record book. Brian Vinyard singled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, grounded out in the 5th, grounded out in the 8th, doubled in the 10th and singled in the 12th. Vinyard has a .344 average and a .397 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 72 hits, 7 home runs and driven in 35 runs. |
