Alexander Muzzles Mobile A Offense Sunday, May 31st , 1953 It wasn't easy but the Sicily A Longhorns made it look that way. Starter Gerhard Alexander shut out the Mobile A Rivermen despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the Sicily A Longhorns cruised to victory, 6-0. Alexander allowed only 7 hits and rang up 3 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win. "It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up." To date Alexander is 2-3 in 7 starts with a 4.56 ERA and has 31 strikeouts in 49.1 innings. |
