Iceland A Shuts Out Providence A, 2-0
Wednesday, June 3rd , 1953
The Providence A Pilgrims were almost helpless in their 2-0 loss to the Iceland A Valiants and hurler Jim Wigginton. Wigginton kept the Pilgrims confused all game, spinning a 7-hit shutout.
"Tip your hat to Wigginton," Providence A manager said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."
The 26-year-old right-hander had 2 walks and 6 strikeouts in a strong performance.
"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Wigginton said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
In 6 starts this season, Wigginton has recorded 5 wins and absorbed 1 loss. He has pitched 51 innings, allowed 47 hits, struck out 42 and has a 3.35 ERA.
