Lisbon A Stops Marciano Hit Streak Friday, June 12th , 1953 Donato Marciano, second baseman for the Sicily A Longhorns, gave it a good try, but his time chasing history came to an end when he went hitless in 1 tries against the Lisbon A Spirit. Not only did the Spirit break his 23-game hitting streak, they also beat Sicily A by the score of 19-2. "Now that the streak has ended, I can admit I'll breathe a bit easier the next time I step up to bat," Marciano said, speaking with the media after the game. "It was tough because I put a little pressure on myself. Now that it's over, I will definitely be a little bit looser at the plate." In 29 games this year, Marciano has posted a .370 average and put up these numbers: 7 home runs, 15 RBIs and 21 runs scored. |
