Iceland A Shuts Out New York A, 4-0 Monday, July 4th , 1955 It wasn't easy but the Iceland A Valiants made it look that way. Starter Ben Barnes shut out the New York A Big Stick despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the Iceland A Valiants cruised to victory, 4-0. Barnes allowed only 6 hits and rang up 5 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win. "It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up." This year, Barnes has recorded a 1-2 mark. In 5 starts he has fanned 17 batters in 33.1 innings with a 4.86 ERA. |
