Punter Torches Rivermen for 5 Hits
Sunday, July 5th , 1953
It doesn't happen very often, but it did for Sander Punter -- a 5-hit effort. He went on a rampage at Ballpark of Houston AAA and paced the 10-9 Spirit win over the Mobile A Rivermen.
After his dynamite batting performance, the Lisbon A second baseman told reporters that he "just tried to get in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control."
His philosophy paid dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 5 tries and put his name in the record book. Sander Punter singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit a three-run home run off Ryan Wilson in the 6th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.
So far this year, Punter has hit .293 with 1 home run, 8 RBIs and 7 runs scored.
