Alexander Holds New York A Scoreless
Monday, August 1st , 1955
It wasn't easy but the Sicily A Longhorns made it look that way.
Starter Gerhard Alexander shut out the New York A Big Stick despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the Sicily A Longhorns cruised to victory, 7-0. Alexander allowed only 3 hits and rang up 10 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win.
"It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up."
To this point in the season, Alexander shows a 10-8 record, 20 starts, 148 innings, 126 strikeouts and a 3.53 ERA.
