Great Day for Henley, Hits for Cycle
Tuesday, May 6th , 1952
Josh Henley did everything he could for the Sicily A Longhorns -- literally.
The 23-year-old left fielder hit a single, a double, a triple and a home run for the Longhorns, going for the cycle and helping them get past the Los Angeles A Warlords, 12-11, at Warlords Park.
"Yeah, I was some kind of hitter in this game," Henley reflected later. "It was like all I had to do was close my eyes and swing the bat."
In a game headed for the record books, Henley banged out 4 hits in 5 at-bats and totaled 5 runs batted in and 1 run scored. Speaking with the press about the feat, he attributed it to "a lot of luck."
"A triple is so hard to hit," he said. "To just decide to get one in a game when you need it for a cycle, it's impossible. Usually something weird has to happen, the ball kicking past an outfielder or somebody falling down. There's a ton of luck in hitting for a cycle."
Josh Henley hit an RBI triple in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off Jose Rodriguez in the 9th.
