Iannacone Strokes 5 Hits Thursday, August 26th , 1954 Merlin Iannacone exploded for a barrage of base hits at Dallas R Fields. The Sicily R left fielder had a field day in his team's 10-6 triumph over the Los Angeles R Lake Monsters, finishing 5-for-6. "My hitting philosophy is simple," he said. "I focus on just seeing the ball and I try to get a good pitch." Iannacone must have focused at least 5 times and apparently got some good pitches, too, leading to one of his best days ever with the bat. Merlin Iannacone hit an RBI single in the 1st, struck out in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit a two-run double in the 6th, singled in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 9th. This year, Iannacone is hitting at a .327 pace with 3 home runs and 16 RBIs. He has played in 28 games and scored 17 times. |
