Pothoven Hit Streak Reaches 20 Games Saturday, March 28th , 1953 The Providence High School Loggers whipped Houston Trade School, 13-8, but couldn't stop Rapids center fielder Rob Pothoven from adding to his consecutive-game hitting streak. The 15-year-old Pothoven collected 3 hits and pushed the streak to 20 games in a row. "Every game I keep this streak alive I go home and write a message to (owner) The owner of the Houston Trade School Rapids saying 'You better start saving for my next contract,'" he told reporters after the game. Rob Pothoven flied out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, grounded out in the 4th, struck out in the 6th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th. Pothoven is hitting .379 in 1953 with 18 RBIs and 4 home runs. |
