Kiers Tops IHS Best Player List

Dwight Kiers took TOBA High School by storm this year, and he did it all at the age of 16.
For his spectacular campaign, the Amsterdam Secondary Bluebirds star has been named the 1959 International High Schools Most Valuable Player Award recipient.
"To be considered amongst the best in the league is overwhelming," said the second baseman.
On the season he compiled a .414 batting average to go with a .486 on-base percentage. The native of Renkum, The Netherlands also added 15 doubles, 3 triples, 5 home runs, 29 RBIs and 35 runs scored.
He received 49 first place votes out of a possible 60. Gordon Buckland of the American International School Argonauts finished second in voting with 8 first place votes, while David Gonzalez of the Greater Capital Secondary Bats finished third.

Driscoll Selected NAHS's Best Player

He may have less experience than most of his TOBA High School peers, but that didn't slow Greg Driscoll down at all in 1959.
At the age of 16, the Adams Academy right fielder has been named the winner of the North American High Schools Most Valuable Player Award.
He had a .447 batting average and a .571 on-base percentage this year. In 41 games he piled up 68 hits, 13 doubles, 2 triples, 12 home runs, 46 RBIs and 51 runs scored.
"I'm blown away by the season I was able to put together," he said. "I'm looking forward to trying to do it all again next year."
He received 60 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Rich Cook of the Adams Academy Copperheads finished second in voting, while Norihito Yamada of the Johnston Institute Battle Kings finished third.
