Dowell Goes 5-for-5 Against Detroit Secondary Tuesday, March 29th , 1955 All game long, Chicago High School's Tom Dowell was rattling the walls at Team 18 Grounds and banging out base hits against the Detroit Secondary Comets. When the dust finally settled on the diamond, he had a 5-hit day and the Waves had a win, 7-6. Speaking with reporters after his standout performance, the 18-year-old right fielder said, "Get 5 hits, win a ballgame, it's nice. I could get used to this." Tom Dowell singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 6th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th. In his 1955 season totals, Dowell has 3 home runs, .468 BA, .580 OBP, 9 RBIs and 16 runs scored. |
