Claessens Smacks 3 Out of the Park
Wednesday, March 30th , 1955
Jemke Claessens brutalized the Baltimore High School Cavaliers pitching staff, launching three home runs in the 14-5 Manhattan Charter School victory at Alligators Stadium. The Manhattan Charter School Skyliners catcher was red-hot, the ball just exploding off his bat all day.
"I don't try to hit homers," he said later. "I try to go out there and put a good swing on the ball, and sometimes it is going to go out of the park. I didn't try to hit the first one or the second one or the third one."
For the game, he went 4-for-5 with 6 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
"Too much Jemke Claessens today," Cavaliers manager said. "That's my assessment of the game. That's what our problems boiled down to."
Jemke Claessens singled in the 1st, struck out in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Juan Rosenblatt in the 5th, hit a three-run home run off Patrick Vallet in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off Takiji Koyama in the 8th.
This season in 23 games, Claessens is batting .390 with 11 home runs, 31 RBIs and has scored 30 times.
