Howard Goes on Rampage Against Robins Thursday, March 31st , 1955 Some moments become linked with a particular player's career forever. Mike Howard of the Providence High School Loggers had one of those moments when he went 5-for-5 at the plate in his team's 12-0 win over the Washington DC High School Robins at Loggers Park. "I won't forget this anytime soon, and I don't expect it to happen too often," the 16-year-old catcher told reporters in the postgame interview. "I'll be happy to just get a hit or two every day. Enough to hang around the league a while longer. Like 10, maybe 15 more years." Mike Howard walked in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a two-run double in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 8th. This season, Howard is batting .310 with 2 home runs. His totals include 15 RBIs and 12 runs scored. |
