Hardin 6-for-7 for Portland Central High School Monday, April 1st , 1957 Even as a kid, Matt Hardin said his coaches told him the key to hitting was making contact, and letting everything else flow from there. At Team Stadium, Hardin showed how well he learned that lesson. The 16-year-old left fielder had 6 hits in 7 at-bats for the Portland Central High School Swamp Bats, helping his team knock off the Boston Central High School Saints by a score of 14-13. "They always said, just keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing, make contact and you never know what will happen," he said. "That's all I did." Matt Hardin hit a solo-shot off Ivan Gonzales in the 1st, struck out in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 8th and singled in the 9th. For the season, Hardin is batting .398 with 41 hits and 2 home runs. He has scored 19 times and batted in 12. |
