Swamp Dogs End Negron Streak
Saturday, April 11th , 1959
Armando Negron, left fielder for the Greater Capital Secondary Bats, gave it a good try, but his time chasing history came to an end when he went hitless in 3 tries against the Rome High School Swamp Dogs. Not only did the Swamp Dogs break his 24-game hitting streak, they also beat Greater Capital Secondary by the score of 5-3.
"Now that the streak has ended, I can admit I'll breathe a bit easier the next time I step up to bat," Negron said, speaking with the media after the game. "It was tough because I put a little pressure on myself. Now that it's over, I will definitely be a little bit looser at the plate."
Currently Negron has 9 home runs and a .331 batting average.
