Perez Gets Award for Relief Work
Tuesday, April 28th , 1953
Hector Perez was a calming influence out of the Charlotte High School Atlantics bullpen this season.

His teammates and manager said he had a poised demeanor about him that was typical of someone much older and more experienced. His poise has paid off, as the 18-year-old turned in a sparkling season and has been named the winner of the North American High Schools Reliever of the Year Award for 1953.

The JaƩn, Spain native won the award with 6 saves in 18 relief appearances, 18 strikeouts in 23.2 innings and a record of 2-1 to go with his 1.52 ERA.

He received 44 first place votes out of a possible 60. Jeff Delaney of the Toronto High School Pilots finished second in voting with 11 first place votes, while Mitch Vandegrift of the Chicago High School Waves finished third with 5 first place votes.
