Super Season, Lopez Wins Most Valuable Player Award Sunday, May 1st , 1955 When it came to hitting the baseball, Tomas Lopez had few peers in the North American High Schools this year. The gifted third baseman for San Juan High School tagged opposing pitchers for a .477 average and was voted the Most Valuable Player Award for 1955. Included in his season stats were 72 hits, 12 doubles, 6 triples, 11 home runs, 43 runs scored and 45 RBIs. He received 60 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Charlie Dryden of the Sleepy Hollow High School Horsemen finished second in voting, while Rob Tirado of the Chicago High School Waves finished third.
