Kiers Tops IHS Best Player List Friday, May 1st , 1959 Dwight Kiers took TOBA High School by storm this year, and he did it all at the age of 16. For his spectacular campaign, the Amsterdam Secondary Bluebirds star has been named the 1959 International High Schools Most Valuable Player Award recipient. "To be considered amongst the best in the league is overwhelming," said the second baseman. On the season he compiled a .414 batting average to go with a .486 on-base percentage. The native of Renkum, The Netherlands also added 15 doubles, 3 triples, 5 home runs, 29 RBIs and 35 runs scored. He received 49 first place votes out of a possible 60. Gordon Buckland of the American International School Argonauts finished second in voting with 8 first place votes, while David Gonzalez of the Greater Capital Secondary Bats finished third.
