5-Hit Barrage by Mascorro Friday, March 28th , 1958 St. Dominic's High School right fielder Jose Mascorro had a fantastic day at the plate at Attack Stadium, knocking out 5 hits and pacing his club to a win, 9-8. "It was like I was hitting Little League pitching," Mascorro said after his 5-for-5 performance against the Attack. "No offense meant to Havana Trade School, but it was like I was back in little league again -- I could see the ball that well. But this wasn't a kid park, it was Attack Stadium." After the game, his manager elaborated on the right fielder's improvements, saying Mascorro spent the offseason trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball. "That's what I'm trying to do," Mascorro said. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it." Jose Mascorro singled in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Jose Escalera in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 5th, singled in the 8th and hit a two-run home run off Matt Boekhout in the 9th. Mascorro is batting .261 this season in 22 games with 4 home runs, 12 RBIs and 18 runs scored. He has 18 hits in 69 at-bats. |
