Yamada Put in Cooler, Hitless Against St. Martin's Prep
Tuesday, April 1st , 1958
For once, it was the Johnston Institute Battle Kings picking up the slack for Norihito Yamada.

The club's "offensive catalyst," as Johnston Institute manager has frequently called him, went uncharacteristically silent and saw his 23-game hitting streak snapped by the St. Martin's Prep Marksmen. Yamada was bailed out by the rest of the Battle Kings, however, who stopped the Marksmen, 3-2.

The 17-year-old second baseman finished the day 0-for-3, and told reporters at the postgame press conference that "everybody did their job but me."

"Not that it was a huge problem -- we still won the game," he said with a grin. "The streak was a good run though. I'll try to start another one tomorrow."

For the season, Yamada has hit .392 with 9 home runs and 24 RBIs. He has played in 27 games and scored 26 times.
