Espino Belts 5 Hits Wednesday, April 2nd , 1958 It seemed that High School of the Caribbean center fielder Willie Espino could do no wrong as the Dingos KO'd the Wingnuts, 9-8. Espino rapped out 5 hits in 6 at-bats and seemed to know which pitches Wingnuts hurlers were throwing. "I think the Dingos were stealing signs," growled one unhappy Taipei High School fan after the game. "I felt good. I saw the ball well and just wanted to make good contact and put the ball in play," said the jubilant Espino in the postgame press interview. Willie Espino singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI double in the 4th, flied out in the 5th, singled in the 8th, hit a two-run home run off Keung Kui in the 9th and hit a two-run home run off Hugo Contreras in the 11th. Espino has a .394 average and a .492 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 41 hits, 8 home runs and driven in 23 runs. |
