Candela Tosses 6-0 Shutout Against Washington DC High School Saturday, April 26th , 1952 Ismael Candela was throwing strikes early and getting ahead in the count, his manager said after the St. Peter's Prep Flyers hurler tossed a 6-hit, complete game shutout against the Washington DC High School Robins. "I went right after each hitter, trying to get ahead in the count," said Candela. "I wanted them to swing the bats and keep my pitch count down. It worked. I felt strong the whole game, even in the last two innings." Candela walked 2 and struck out 2 in the 6-0 victory. This year, Candela has compiled a 3-6 record with a 7.04 ERA in 9 starts. |
