St. Peter's Prep Moves on to Round 2 Saturday, April 26th , 1952 On the strength of a dominant series from left-hander Ismael Candela, the St. Peter's Prep Flyers have eliminated the Washington DC High School Robins in the Round 1. St. Peter's Prep won the final game by a score of 6-0 at Team 3 Stadium and took the series 4-2. Candela was named MVP and had a 0.00 ERA over 9 innings pitched, with 2 strikeouts and a 1-0 record. "The pitches were doing what they were supposed to be doing in this series," he said. "I felt in control." It's likely not the last time these two North American High Schools teams will meet in the playoffs and Washington DC High School manager said his club would be better prepared for the next matchup. "It feels like we didn't show up ready to win," he said. "That won't happen again." The St. Peter's Prep Flyers don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Sleepy Hollow High School Horsemen - Long Beach High School Voyagers series. That series is tied at 3 games apiece. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes. |
