3 Home Runs for Taylor
Friday, March 25th , 1955
It's a rare event when a player hits three homers in a game and rarer still when he does it and loses.
It happened at Marshals Grounds, as Sterling Taylor of the The Janison Institute Wolverines unloaded three times against the Ocean County Institute of Technology Demons but was still bumped off, 9-7, by the Demons.
"We were lucky to win today," said Ocean County Institute of Technology skipper . "You can't give up that many home runs and expect to win on a regular basis."
For the game, the The Janison Institute right fielder had 4 hits in 4 at-bats, scored 3 times, and drove in 5.
Taylor spoke to the writers in the postgame press room with mixed feelings, saying he was sad to lose but happy to be seeing the ball well.
"I was just trying to swing early and often to give myself a chance," he said. "I let the pitcher supply all the power and try to figure out how to get the bat on the ball."
Sterling Taylor was hit by a pitch in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Nick Cole in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Bobby Weaver in the 7th and hit a three-run home run off Dave Brown in the 8th.
Taylor is currently batting .256 with 7 home runs, 21 RBIs and 13 runs scored. He has 20 hits in 78 at-bats.
