That's All She Wrote: Career Over for Wellons Sunday, April 24th , 1955 The baseball career of Jared Wellons is over. A spokesperson for the North West Florida University Aligators clarified earlier comments about the 20-year-old starting pitcher. Wellons, he said, will retire effective immediately as the result of a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament. Though he had spoken optimistically about playing again, Wellons informed the team that he has decided to retire. It is a sad day for North West Florida University -- a sad day for those who had hoped that Wellons would return. Thus far this season, Wellons has tossed 78 innings in 12 starts, fanned 39 batters, walked 42 and put up a 2.77 ERA with 5 wins and 4 losses. |
